DAY 1 : WELCOME TO SICILIA
Arrived in Catania International Airport we travel to the hotel in Catania where we stay in an hotel in dowtown for 2 nights. In the evening we have a first orientation of the city and a “Welcome to Sicily” dinner.

DAY 2 : CATANIA
After the breakfast we start our visit of Unesco-listed historic center of Catania: piazza del Duomo with the Elephant fountain and S. Agata cathedral, the fish market La Pescheria, via Crociferi and the Roman Amphitheatre. Lunch break in Catania. In the afternoon we take a bus to reach Aci Trezza, a small fishing village 10km far from Catania, with a lively seafront and a umber of good restaurant. Dinner on your own in Aci Trezza.

DAY 3 : ETNA VOLCANO
Today, after breakfast, we join a guided day tour to Mount Etna, the highest volcano in Europe (mt.3389). An experienced guide will drive us to Rifugio Sapienza. There the tour will continue by taking the cable car up to 2500 meters and a special 4×4 vehicle to reach an altitude of 2950 meters. So, together with a volcanological guide, we will enjoy the magnificence of our volcano standing in front of the impressive Central and South Eastern Craters, surrounded by ancient and recent lava flows. Dinner on your own in Catania.

DAY 4 : TAORMINA, THE PEARL OF SICILIA
Today, after breakfast, we go to the station to take a train to Taormina where we visit the Greek Theater, that still hosts summer performances and Piazza IX Aprile in the center of Taormina, with a nice black and white paving and amazing views over the sea. It is also a wonderful setting in which to practice the “Dolce far niente” (the sweetness of doing nothing) while strolling the charming medieval city center, enjoy the stupendous views, the food and handycraft shops. Lunch break in Taormina. Dinner on your own in Catania.

DAY 5 : SIRACUSA, THE ANCIENT GREEK CITY OF ARCHIMEDE
After breakfast, we travel to Siracusa, listed by UNESCO as World Heritage Site. In the morning we visit the Archaeological Park of Neapolis and of its Greeks theatre, that nowadays still stage of new theatre performances, the Roman amphitheatre, and a rock cave known as the “Ear of Dionysus”. Then we move to Ortigia for a walking along the island: just close to the bridge there is the Greek Temple of Apollo and the Old Ortigia Market where we enjoy the local street food. Then we continue our walking through the winding streets and alleys of the elegant Ortigia reaching the harbour where we have a boat trip around the island. In the late afternoon we travel to our hotel.

DAY 6 : VENDICARI RESERVE AND THE FISHING VILLAGE OF MARZAMENI.
Today we go to the Vendicari Reserve . Vendicari is a real paradise for birds. The Reserve has three different paths between steep cliffs, unspoilt sea, and juniper trees. After relaxing, swimming and having a packed lunch at Calamosche beach we move to visit the charming fishing village of Marzameni with its small port that creates a fascinating atmosphere and where we see a truly one-of-a-kind tuna production facility, a “Tonnara”, a Sicilian tradition that has been passed down in this area of the island for hundreds of years. Before leaving to Marzameni we stop at a place where the Campisi family, from five generations, is preparing and preserving and fishing of the Sicilian Coasts worked in artisanal way (only native fish from their coasts). Marzameni has been the location of numerous films and every summer is the theatre of a cinematografic festival, the “Festival del Cinema di Frontiera”. Dinner together at Portopalo di capo Passero.

DAY 7 : SICILIAN BAROQUE: NOTO & MODICA
A full day’s journey today takes us south-east to witness splendours of the Sicilian Baroque architecture, part of a Unesco World Heritage Site. In 1693, in the wake of a mighty eruption of Etna, this corner of Sicily was devastated by an earthquake. Towns were rapidly rebuilt out of the glowing local limestone. After breakfast we go to Noto, known throughout the world for its architecture, pastries and gelato. Here we visit the historical dowtown with the cathedral that has been restored after the dome collapsed in 1996. Lunch break in Noto.
After Noto we will visit the splendid charming hill-top town of Modica, UNESCO World Heritage Site, known as “one hundred churches town”. Here we also attend a demonstration of how the well known Cioccolato Modicano is made. Dinner on your own in Modica.

DAY 8 : CALTAGIRONE, THE CITY OF CERAMICS & ROMAN VILLA MOSAICS
After breakfast we leave Modica and we drive to Caltagirone. The city of Caltagirone is one of the most interesting inland Sicilian destinations. Perched on three different hills which boast of stunning views of the valley below, it is famous for the quality and sophistication of its ceramics.
“La Scalinata”, is the most famous site of the city: it was built in 1608 to join the upper and the lower part of the city. In 1953, the 142 steps that constitute it were completely rebuilt in lava stone and were elaborately decorated with hand-painted works from local craftsmen. The visual effect is stunning. Lunch break in Caltagirone. In the afternoon we move to Piazza Armerina to visit the “Villa del Casale”, (Unesco World Heritage site) a perfectly preserved charming house from the Roman era, in which the ancient mosaics still shine. After the visit, we drive towards Agrigento, stopping for dinner and the night in Racalmuto, located a short drive from the archeological site of “Valle dei Templi”. Dinner together in Racalmuto.

DAY 9 : AGRIGENTO & MARSALA
After breakfast , we reach the ancient “Valle dei Templi”, Unesco World Heritage site, where we visit three doric temples: Giunone (Juno), the temple of Concordia and Ercole (Heracles). Lunch break. In the afternoon driving towards the West coast of Sicily we stop at the “Scala dei Turchi” (Stair of Turks), a rocky cliff on the coast of southern formed by marlstone, a sedimentary rock with a characteristic white color. It lies between two sandy beaches, and is accessed through a limestone rock formation in the shape of a staircase, hence the name. Then we arrive in Marsala, a town famous for Marsala the, dry and sweet, wine. Here we visit a winery for a wine tasting with the possibility of visiting its cellars. Following the visit, we’ll drive to Trapani enjoying the coastal road along the saltpans. Dinner on your own in Trapani.

DAY 10 : TRAPANI SALT PANS EXPERIENCE & ERICE
After breakfast we visit the Trapani Paceco nature reserve, one of the island’s few remaining wetlands and now a WWF reserve since 1995. The reserve offers splendid sceneries, with its picturesque windmills, and the vast saltpans whose water is tinged with red at sunset. We also visit the Museum of Salt, located in the reserve. In the afternoon we will go to Erice, a perfectly preserved historic hilltop town with a triangular ground plan and all the features of its medieval design: narrow, winding lanes and alleys, small artisan workshops and tucked-away courtyards. The small town is noted for the excellence of its sweet pastries, based on the nuns’ ancient recipes. At the sunset we go back to Trapani to visit the city. Dinner on your own in Trapani.

DAY 11: SEGESTA & MONREALE CATHEDRAL
After breakfast, we depart for Segesta and visit the Doric Temple, one of the best preserved of its kind in the world and the Amphitheatre, sitting upon a hilltop location on Mount Barbaro and built around the same time as the temple, impressive not for its size, but for its location. In the afternoon we drive to Monreale, not far from Palermo, to visit the stunning Norman cathedral, famed for its glorious golden mosaics. Lunch break in Monreale. After the visiting Monreale we go at our hotel in Palermo and in the evening we have a first orientation of the most important city of the Sicily. Dinner on your own in Palermo.

DAY 12: PALERMO
A crossroads of history, Palermo holds the distinction of being the world’s most conquered city and a melting pot of civilizations ranging from the Phoenicians, Romans and Byzantines to the Arabs and Normans. Since July 2015, the breathtaking architectural complex of Arabic and Norman origins of Palermo, along with the Cathedrals of Monreale and Cefalù has entered in the Unesco site list. We will visit the Royal Palace with the Palatine Chapel, the Norman Cathedral, the typical local Capo market in the homonym ancient district. Lunch break in Palermo. In the afternoon we continue our walking reaching the Greek-Orthodox church of S. Maria dell’Ammiraglia, well-known as Martorana. Dinner on your own in Palermo.

Today, after the breakfast, according to our flight plans we leave for Palermo airport or Catania airport.
